Mr. Sandman...

I don't know what it is about watching my kids sleep, but I just LOVE it!!  We could have had the worst day and when I see those sweet little faces dreaming, my heart just melts.  With school and extracurricular activities in full swing my life seems crazy and hectic, so I want to document some quiet, peaceful moments.

Kai is doing GREAT in school!  He loves his teacher and seems to have lots of friends.  His biggest complaint so far is that the schoolwork/homework is way too easy, but I keep telling him to be patient and it will get more challenging soon.  He started piano lessons this year and seems to be a natural.  He's still at that stage where he is begging me to practice the piano instead of the other way around, which I love.  Kai has also become a very big Harry Potter fan.  He is about halfway through the 1st book and wants to be Harry Potter for Halloween.  He had a play date the other day and came home with a wand, a scar on his forehead and black circles around his eyes for glasses.  Kai has always been my sweetest child, but recently he is also developing a very funny sense of humor.  We are working on teaching him that there are times to be silly and times to be serious, but it's hard to keep a straight face at some of the things that come out of his mouth.

Halle is also loving school!  She gets so excited on school days and is always the first one ready and telling everyone to hurry up so she is not late.  Of course, we have the dreaded "what to wear today" battle which is no fun.  I just can't seem to make her understand that we can't wear church dresses to preschool.  We are actually considering switching Kai and Halle to a charter school next year and one of the nice things about that is they wear uniforms!!!  Halle is a busy girl doing ballet and gymnastics this year!  She dances all day long and I already see an improvement with her posture and gracefulness.  Halle is 4 going on 14 and definitely our most spirited child!  Although she can sometimes make us fear the teenage years, we are constantly impressed with how helpful and strong she is.  She is already so fun to talk to and if you want to get on her good side, paint her nails.

Makayla is still our happy baby!  She is perfectly content chasing after her brother and sister and watching everything they do.  Our challenging area with her is that she refuses to eat!!!  We have tried everything with no luck.  We have finally decided to give up on baby food completely and concentrate on foods we eat.  We seem to be having a little bit more luck with that, but at this rate, I will be nursing her forever!!  She is the size of a 5 month old, which gets us lots of stares when people watch her stand up and take a few steps.  Although Makayla is small, she has the personality of someone 5 times her size.  She is so so funny and will do anything for a laugh.  For some reason, she really enjoys wrestling with people and laughs hysterically when she gets pushed down.

Although this has nothing to do with this post, Darren has gotten a new job and we are SO excited for him!!!  The job is in medical sales and even though he has never done sales, we all think he will do great and we are so proud of him!  Congratulations Daddy!  We love you!!!

A Day of Firsts

One of my favorite things about Arizona is that the schools start here at the beginning of August!  After two months of finding activities that keep us cool and entertained, I was so ready for that precious first day of school to arrive!!

Kai got to know all the 1st grade teachers last year when he was in Kindergarten and he really took a liking to Mrs. Hollis.  He begged me everyday at the end of the school year to PLEASE call his Kindergarten teacher and ask her to put him in Mrs. Hollis' class.  I told him that I was sure his teacher would put him the perfect class and not to worry about it, but he ended up spending the summer hoping he got her as a teacher.  So, at the end of July the class list was posted and Kai was THRILLED to see that he did in fact get Mrs. Hollis.  He has only been in school a week, but she does seem to be a great teacher.  She is very sweet to the children, but also expects a lot from them.  She is very organized and runs a tight ship, which I think is so important when you have 20 six-year-olds.  Although its only been a week, Kai already has his routine down and I'm thinking 1st grade is going to be a great year for him!

Halle was all set to start preschool last year, but the week before school started she cried and cried and wouldn't go on the first day.  Since she was only 3 at the time and she would still have another year of preschool, we decided to take her out and try again this year.  Boy, what a difference a year makes!  Halle's school started today and she has literally been counting down the days.  She has had her backpack packed, clothes laid out (which of course is the pinkest, frilliest dress she has) and hairstyle picked out for about 5 days now.  She skipped into my room this morning at 6am and loudly announced that today was her first day of school!!!  Halle is going to the same preschool Kai went to, so she already knew her teacher from when Kai had her.  I even asked if she wanted me to walk her in on her first day to which she replied, "No thanks mom, I can do it by myself."  Halle is my little social butterfly and I know she is going to have a great year!!!

My, how we've grown...

As I was designing this blog, I got out all of our old pictures trying to find one to put up and I saw all the kids baby pictures.  I was so amazed and sad at how big my kids have gotten, and how old I'm getting:-(  Time sure flies!  So, I thought the perfect FIRST post for my blog would be to go back to the beginning and show those adorable baby pictures!
